Brand INDIA !!!

Brand INDIA !!! A suiside country too

GDP growth is estimated at a stunning 8 percent-plus.
Foreign exchange reserves are at over $103 billion.
Check out the mushrooming malls, improving telecom connectivity, booming industry.
The government has ambitious plans to link rivers, to build superhighways -- both concrete and wireless, criss-crossing the nation.
A South Asia Free Trade Agreement has been created.
Plus radical economic and strategic pacts with the United States, the European Union, and Southeast Asia.
The nationwide media blitz -- would have us believe that we are now looking at a resurgent India, an economic and military powerhouse striding firmly towards its rightful place in the world.
Economists say many million Indians still do not have access to potable water, electricity, decent housing or even good roads.
And literacy rates are appalling.
Do you think the 'feel good' factor sweeping India is more imaginary than real?

The suicides in Maharashtra mark an increase of 527 over the 2005 figure. This was four and a half times bigger than that in Andhra Pradesh, the next worst-hit State, which saw a rise of 117 farm suicides over 2005. It was also more than twice the increase of 198 in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh taken together.
The NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau) figures show an unrelenting uptrend in what can be termed the ‘SEZ’ or (Farmers) ‘Special Elimination Zone’ States. These States, which account for nearly two-thirds of all farm suicides in the country, include Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh (including Chhattisgarh).
As a group, the ‘SEZ’ States saw an increase of 6.2 per cent in such deaths.
Among them, Maharashtra (4,453), Andhra Pradesh (2,607) and Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh (2,858) show a sharp upward spike.
And the trend of rapidly rising farm suicides, particularly post-2001 in the ‘SEZ’ States, remains unchanged.
NCRB data record 1,66,304 farmers’ suicides in a decade since 1997.
On average, there has been one farmer’s suicide every 30 minutes since 2002.

Two Greats

a tribute to ritwik ghatak

BY john abraham

Ritwik Ghatak,
in partition, not physically of willingness
-the country departed
Out of his outer consciousness - cosmic consciousness
none of his mistakes,
Reactions - natural reactions – reflections
Ritwik Ghatak,
refugee, unborn, unwanted, unbearable
penetrative towards the Victorian hangover
of the Tagorian corruption of thinking

Life was more important to him
than the words in praise of god,
the god of Victorian Tagorian thinking.
Hence, he was rejected from the Bengalian thinking
Ritwik Ghatak - the name doesn't suit
the hierarchic thinking of
the Raynian Zamidarian thinking
Perhaps, the long echo of the forgotten factors
that becomes reminiscence of
the 'death of the salesman' or otherwise
the long columns and no more Chhabi Biswas,
Cardiac arrest is common.
The death of Ghatak is uncommon.
Nay, Ritwik Ghatak
I remember, a tall man
his hands moving around my shoulders,
catching me with the feeling of nearness,
rather than imperialism-
the man who stands before me
questioning my manliness
loosing his hands to shake my hands
in appreciation of manliness
recognizing each other-
abiding in each other
kicking on my an's and telling me
"Get up, awake shoot"
I remember, not with sentiments
with awakening proud, Ritwik Ghatak
Ritwik Daa,
let me call you Ritwik Daa,
I know that you are no more.
But I am, alive for you
Believe me. When the seventh seal is opened
I will use my camera as my gun
and I am sure the echo of the sound
will reverberate in your bones,
and feed back to me for my inspiration.
Thank you Ritwik Daa,
I am thanking you
not with impotency and insipidity

Ritwik Daa,
I remember you,
when the words fails to criticize you,
Ritwik Daa,
eternally you are
in my brain
in my spirit and
in my Holy Ghost
Amen.

Paintings of Uday Shinde

Earthy color, dense ambient and so fresh in appearance, Uday’s paintings depict existence of pure soul through his works and huge amount of concentration he able to established. His landscapes are dense by presence and voluminous in composition with raw and very bright color. No excuses for any light shade or lose brush strokes as tone of the paintings very much focused on direct dealing with bright or raw color. So when a single color used, it comes with its own dominance. Colors used on paintings are with their own supremacy.
Two figurative paintings along side other landscapes are very imaginative yet mysterious in presence. Close up and mid close up are hardly mysterious but here in these two paintings we faced mysticism covered with romantic outline which emerged with so much maturity. No gleeful childlike innocence but innocence prevailed so simplistic way that it transmitted to audience. With raw red background, figures of these two paintings carry with them thin outline of eroticism. But sadness of eyes, submission, togetherness, and social dilemma those are emotions which generated power, integrity and sublime of these two paintings.
We may find some influence of Paul Gauguin as in use of color, density and volume but Uday very firm, honest on his approach and cultivation and it is delight for audience to watching his paintings for its captivate power.

Paintings of Vijay Adagale

On personal account I have been seen him developing his method and style time to time. These paintings are one of his high point of development. Climbed to top of the hill of realism and just stood there for self searching as it was required. On the top of hill further nothing but open sky. So with some realization and wondering, he tries to find his own path. And as result we got these paintings.

When social surroundings are all about violence and cruelty, intolerance, these series has its own mark and messages. As Buddha himself is great ambassador of peace, all paintings of this series brings ambient of peace as prime factor. We see in one of his paintings Buddha holding two men together. It is not about preaching but more about make them calm and understandable. Peoples in this painting not depict as disciples or commoner but they reflect ongoing intolerance and violence around the world. So Buddha stands here more as a metaphor or as a symbol or we can say an effective symbol of tolerance for current days. Audience can easily transcend to that ambient of peace.

Balance color with subtle in using of brush as it is his trade mark. A light blue to white gradient used in figure of Buddha which contrasts to background. The pure white shade in face of Buddha itself a central focus point of all paintings of this series. And it works as meditative focus point to audience mind and gives all paintings another level of height.
A not only feel good series but also evoked presence of inner strength of the Artist.
